Forget the Royal and Ancient. With two Championship golf courses located at either end of town – and several challenging Links courses a short drive away – Nairn is the REAL home of golf.
The Nairn Golf Club, located at the West End just beyond Central Beach, is our oldest and most historic club.
The traditional links course dates from 1887 and the original design by Archie Simpson was later developed by Old Tom Morris, five times Open champion James Braid and Ben Sayers. Once the land of the Earl of Cawdor, every hole on the Championship course offers extraordinary views of the Moray Firth and the Black Isle beyond, as well as tricky greens and cunningly angled short holes that will challenge the mettle of any golfer.
Visitors are welcome on both the Championship Course and the 9-hole Cameron Course, a gentler course that is perfect for a fun family round of golf and for practice sessions.
The Nairn Golf Club is also member of the Highland Golf Links Partnership, along with Royal Dornoch and Castle Stuart.
Nairn Dunbar Golf Club, established in 1899, is home to Scotland’s No. 1 golfer, Russell Knox, who was previously Junior Club Captain.
The 6,800-yard links course is a treat for the senses, offering a variety of challenges set amongst spectacular views over the Moray Firth towards Sutherland and to the Cawdor Hills inland. Visitors are welcome to reserve tee times, participate in a range of open competitions, and purchase golf passes for the area.
With two excellent golf courses in the town, Nairn is the perfect base for your Highland golf tour. Only 15 minutes from Castle Stuart and little over an hour to Royal Dornoch, Nairn offers the perfect place to start and end your Highland golf experience.
