Award-Winning Nairn – Climate Town Winner 2021

Each year, Scotland Loves Local (SLL) recognises and celebrates the dedication, innovation, and achievements of towns and neighbourhoods across the nation. Finalists are individuals, businesses and community organisations from across the country; nominated by the people who have seen and felt the positive impact of their work #ChooseLocal

Nairn is delighted to have been awarded ‘Climate Town’ for 2021 based on the green improvements made by local organisations: Nairn BID, Green Hive, Nairn Bowling Club, and Nairn Community & Arts Centre. Some of the major improvements include mass solar panel installations and Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations. Other shortlisted organisations for this award include: Greener Kirkcaldy and LEAP, Greater Glasgow.

Sustainability and green improvements are key focuses as we try to reduce the impact of tourism and industry on our environment. In May 2019, the Scottish Government made amendments to Scotland’s Climate Change Bill, in line with guidance from the UK Committee on Climate Change, to set a target for net zero emissions of all greenhouse gases by 2045.
