Where Literature and Art Meet the Moray Firth: The 2026 Nairn Book and Arts Festival

Coastal charm meets Highland creativity! From 29th August to 6th September 2026, the historic seaside town of Nairn transforms into a vibrant cultural hub for the annual Nairn Book and Arts Festival.
Now in its 23rd year, this celebrated non-profit gathering brings together national literary heavyweights, emerging Highland voices, visual artists, and musicians along the shores of the Moray Firth.

What Makes 2026 Special?
This year’s lineup strikes a perfect balance between high-profile author talks, intimate performances, and hands-on community engagement:

Literary Highlights: Catch Booker Prize winner Douglas Stuart discussing John of John, alongside acclaimed novelist Sarah Hall introducing her latest work, Helm.
Visual Arts: The Nairn Open Exhibition showcases regional talent from across the Highlands and islands, while local spaces host everything from photography to botanical art
Music & Performance: Enjoy acoustic folk sets, poetry slams paired with live accompaniment, and late-night events like Northern Soul dances extending into the evening.
Workshops & Walking Tours: Immerse yourself in hands-on puppet-making or join guided walks through Nairn’s historic Fishertown and High Street.

A Town-Wide Celebration
While the primary hub is the Nairn Community & Arts Centre, events spill across the town—from the library and Seaman’s Hall to pop-up events along Nairn’s fantastic beach. Combined with a free family event and an amazing Finale Day, the festival offers an accessible atmosphere where visitors can mingle with creators.
Whether you’re looking to hear inspiring talks, pick up a new craft, or take a twilight stroll along the Firth after a live show, Nairn is the ultimate late-summer getaway for culture lovers.
